Clean Water, Brighter Futures: COV Transforms Tra Giang Kindergarten

Access to clean water, basic sanitation, and good hygiene practices are fundamental human rights (UNICEF). Yet, in Vietnam, many of the youngest and most vulnerable children still lack these necessities. Despite progress in water, sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure, millions of children—especially in remote, ethnically diverse areas—remain at risk. This inadequate access contributes to malnutrition, stunting, and preventable health issues.

Tra Giang Kindergarten, nestled in the mountainous commune of Tra Giang in Tra Bong District, Quang Ngai Province, has long faced these challenges. The region’s rugged terrain, scattered population, and limited infrastructure create significant barriers to essential resources. For the school’s 55 students—many from ethnic minority communities—this reality impacts their daily lives, including their access to clean water.

The school relied on a single drilled well to meet its water needs, but the outdated filtration system frequently broke down, leaving students and teachers without a dependable source of safe drinking water. This posed serious health risks, especially for the young children living in an area with limited access to healthcare, proper nutrition, and other essential services.

Recognizing the urgent need, COV stepped in to support the installation of a modern water filtration system. This state-of-the-art solution now provides a reliable source of clean, safe water for the school’s students and staff. To make the system even more welcoming, the project included vibrant, child-friendly decorations that bring joy and a sense of pride to the children.

The impact of this intervention has been immediate and transformative. Mrs. Song Huong, a representative of the school, shared her heartfelt gratitude:

“On behalf of every member of our school, we extend our deepest thanks. This priceless resource is a blessing that will improve the lives of our students for years to come.”

For Knu, a 5-year-old boy, who is studying at Tra Giang kindergarten, the difference is already tangible:

“I drink more water now, especially after playing with my friends at recess. It tastes so much better—it’s not salty anymore!”

Access to clean water is more than a basic need — it’s a foundation for health, education, and opportunity. Through this project, COV is not just addressing immediate challenges but also creating the conditions for a healthier, brighter future for these children.

The smiles of Tra Giang’s students as they enjoy fresh, clean water inspire us to continue our mission. Yet, there are still more communities in need of support. With your continued partnership, we can bring the gift of clean water to even more schools, tackling barriers and creating brighter futures—one drop at a time.
