Meet Lê Đặng Khánh Linh, a fourth-year student majoring in Economic Law at the University of Law – Hue University, and a proud member of the Bright Scholars program. Linh comes from a family of six, where financial struggles are a daily challenge. Her father works as a day laborer and her mother, a seamstress, underwent spinal surgery limiting her ability to work consistently. The family’s monthly income is barely enough to make ends meet, especially with the added burden of medical expenses incurred when Gia Linh, Linh’s youngest sister, was born with a congenital heart condition and required surgery shortly after birth.

Despite these financial strains, Linh’s parents remain determined to support their children’s educational dreams, recognizing their potential and passion for learning. They worked tirelessly and even borrowed money to ensure that Linh and her two older twin sisters, Thảo Ly & Khánh Ly, could attend university.
Since her second year in 2022, Linh has been receiving a scholarship and remains deeply committed to her education. Additionally, Linh’s younger sister has received healthcare support through the Hope System of Care program, which has significantly improved her health and well-being.
“That was a tough time for my family. My sisters and I considered leaving university to help with the family’s finances and care for my sister. Thanks to COV’s support we were able to get through those difficult days,” Linh shared.
She completed all of her semester exams with excellent results. Her passion for learning extends beyond the classroom. Although her family’s financial situation makes it difficult to afford books, she often borrows them from friends and the university library. Linh is also an active member of her university’s book club where she enhances her writing and communication skills by contributing weekly articles. “Reading and writing have helped me broaden my knowledge and grow in confidence,” Linh said. “My dream is to continue my education and pursue a master’s degree in journalism so I can use my voice to tell stories that matter, making a positive impact to help people who have similar circumstances like my family.”
Dang Thi Dao, Linh’s mother, speaks with pride: “Linh’s perseverance is our family’s pride. Despite our struggles, she has never wavered in her commitment to her education.” Gia Linh agreed, “My sister always encourages me, even when times are tough, especially Linh. She’s my role model. I admire her motivation and efforts, and I want to be strong like her.”
Reflecting on her journey, Linh says, “No matter how tough it gets, my family and I always have each other’s backs. That love is what keeps us going.”
