The Journey of Zo Ram Buoi: From Farm to University

Zo Ram Buoi, a young member of the Co Tu ethnic minority, grew up on a farm in a big family in the remote Tay Giang District of Quang Nam Province. His family’s arduous life as farmers, coupled with his parents’ health struggles, made supporting their 12 children’s education a formidable challenge.

Despite these circumstances, Buoi developed a deep love for agriculture. However, he was determined to pursue higher education as a path to a better future for himself and his family. At just 12 years old, he left home to attend school, a 30-mile journey from his family. Homesickness and the challenges of studying without electricity were constant companions, but Buoi persevered, driven by his dream of becoming a veterinarian.

Buoi developed a deep love for agriculture and dreamed of becoming a veterinarian.

In 2019, Buoi’s hard work and determination paid off when he was accepted into the University of Agriculture and Forestry at Hue University. Thanks to a five-year scholarship from Children of Vietnam (COV) through the Bright Scholars Program, he could pursue his dream. Buoi is one of 47 Bright Scholars students that COV has supported in completing university degrees.

Buoi participated in Personal Development Workshops organized by COV

“Every day I attend classes, I feel joy and excitement. As the only one in my family pursuing higher education, I am deeply grateful and strive to make the most of my time at university,”

Buoi says.

Beyond his academic pursuits, Buoi is an active volunteer. He has participated in tree-planting and river cleanup initiatives organized by COV. “I’ve been incredibly fortunate, and I want to give back by helping other children facing greater challenges,” he said.

Having completed his university studies, Buoi is now working as an intern veterinarian at a large pig farm in Ninh Thuan Province.

“Receiving my first salary from a job I love is incredibly fulfilling,” he said with a smile. “I’m eager to support my family after all they’ve done for me.”

Buoi’s journey is a testament to the power of perseverance and the transformative impact of education. Donate today to help a child in Vietnam achieve their dreams, like Buoi.
