Thu is shattering stereotypes, one equation at a time. A Bright Scholar studying civil and industrial construction at Da Nang Polytechnic University, she’s proving that engineering is not just a man’s world.
From a family of six where challenges are the norm with only one income source, Thu’s determination is as solid as the structures she’s learning to build. Her mother, a resilient survivor of Agent Orange, instilled in her a spirit of perseverance that has become the cornerstone of her success.
With the support of Children of Vietnam (COV), Thu’s academic journey took flight. A five-year scholarship propelled her into the male-dominated world of engineering, where she quickly distinguished herself. Her academic excellence, marked by multiple scholarships, speaks to her talent and dedication.
"Numbers and drawing have always fascinated me," Thu explains. "Engineering is a perfect fit." She also explored other passions.
She recently excelled in the university-level Materials Strength Olympic competition, securing a coveted spot in the national competition.
Despite facing doubts about her physical stature in a physically demanding field, Thu refused to be deterred. Her determination to overcome challenges is as inspiring as her academic achievements.
“I was concerned that my size could be a disadvantage on a construction site. But now, I refuse to let that hold me back. Instead, I use it as fuel to push myself harder in other aspects of my work.”
said Thu.
