Once you step into the office of Da Nang University’s Youth Union, your attention is immediately drawn to the captivating smile of Tong Thi Thanh Tuyen. Her radiant smile masks the hardships she has endured throughout her childhood. Tuyen lives with her mother in Hoa Quy Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District, Danang, amidst conditions of poverty. The untimely demise of her father during her early childhood, coupled with her mother’s disability, created a challenging environment for her family. With her mother’s limited ability to work, they could barely scrape together a meager daily income of 200,000 VND, equivalent to approximately $8.
Despite Tuyen’s exceptional academic performance over the years, the prospect of attending college seemed like an unattainable dream, given her family’s financial constraints. Recognizing the significance of supporting such cases, COV extended a helping hand to Tuyen through the Bright Scholar Program in 2018. Throughout her four years of study at Danang University, Tuyen received comprehensive assistance, including full tuition coverage, monthly expenses, and participation in various skills training classes.
